You’ll need a soft tape measure (and a few tasty treats help keep your hound calm and still). Make sure your dog is standing straight on a flat surface.
Back length – Start at the shoulder blades (withers) and measure along the spine to the base of the tail. Avoid measuring when your hound is lying down or curled up, as this gives an inaccurate result.
Chest (girth) – Wrap the tape around the ribcage at the widest point, just behind the front legs. Keep the tape snug but not tight.
Neck – Measure the circumference at the base of the neck, where a collar naturally sits (just above the shoulders).
Please follow Whiptails’ measuring guide before choosing a size from the charts below. Measurements can vary slightly between retailers depending on how they guide you to measure.
It’s a good idea to recheck your sighthound’s chest measurement between purchases, as weight can change over time.
Although whippets, greyhounds, and Italian greyhounds may only differ slightly in measurements, their body shape and clothing fit are very different. For the best results, I recommend choosing Whiptails clothing by breed as well as measurements.
